Gone Flatmates

Last night we had our last shindig as the de facto/original 307 crew, with our extended family. Danny has moved to Mountain View, Ted is leaving in a few hours on his cross-country road trip to Boston (and kidnapping Lisa, Jerry, and Howie for the ride), and I will soon be standing by at SFO to head to Chicago and Seattle for a few days. Oh yeah, and T practically moved out before he even moved in. ;)

It's been a fun year living here, full of laughter and sorrow, fellowship and solitude. And it will be an interesting month of July as I myself prepare to move out in the midst of summer subletters (Rob, Jerry) and new tenants (Jason, Justin).

Here's to continued good times for the residents, friends, and community at 307 College Ave.

Lame Flatmates

Something stinks here like one-sided journalism. Let's get the full picture, my fellow pursuers of the whole truth (obviously not talking to you, Dorkko).

I got back to Stanford on Tuesday night, pulling in around 9pm after 11 hours of driving. Who do I see first? Certainly not my flatmates. Instead, I had the privilege of seeing Sei. And good thing she was hanging at our place, or else I wouldn't have seen anyone. Why? Because my flatmates, Ted and Duj, were busy playing a computer game upstairs. In fact, when Sei yelled up to them to announce the arrival of Flatmate #4, they yelled down, "WE'RE PREOCCUPIED!"

And it wasn't like, "Hold on a second till we can pause the game." They played over an hour more until the game was over. During this period, our typically absent flatmate, T, even came back to welcome me. Let me clarify: T made a special trip away from work to come back and greet me, and then returned to work. Can we see who the better flatmate is? Ted and Danny complain that they never see T around. Clearly they don't see him, even when he is home.

So, the morals of this tragic story:
1. Don't listen to Ddonggo. (Ted was smart to stay silent. In shame.)
2. Come visit 307, where at least I will give you a warm welcome. I obviously can't speak for the rest of my flatmates, who will probably just stay sitting at their computers. You may manage to get a quick "hey" yelled at you if you beg at their doors, but don't expect them to actually turn a head or wave a hand. That would be too much for their simple minds.

New Flatmate

So the Bungster arrived a couple days ago.  He's starting to get settled in.  Ted and I went in to say hello and chat.  After we manage to get his attention (he had his headphones on), he turns around, snidely uncovers one ear, and asks, "What do you guys want?"  No wonder it felt like his room had air conditioning.

Optical Illusion

Click here for a cool optical illusion.
No, it's not one of those stupid scary links where an ugly face pops up after you stare at it for a while.

Massive Update! Free Photos Inside!

Ok, so here's a big update on the goings-ons around here, complete with visual aids, almost half-pseudo-photo-diary style.  So here are pictures from our hike at Castlerock State Park, up on the Skyline Ridge.

Top row, left to right: Jerry "The Yellow Dart" Yu, Henry "Yes" Noh, Gene "Jean/Jeanine/Janine/Jeanie/Nancy" Pang, Lisa "Oven Fury" Yoshimi, Vincent Ted "Pack Mule" Liao;
Bottom row, left to right: Audrey "Thingo" Yang, Naj "Baj" Kim, Jessica "Gelatin" Luo;
Not pictured: Photographer - Danny "Master" Dokko

Here we are sitting on a big rock.

This is an equal opportunity blog site, including pictures of pretty stuff, such as flowers.  So here are some flowers.  There were orange ones too.  Take a good look, because if I later decide that flowers are wussy, they will be duly stricken from this site.

Here's the view out from ... a viewpoint.

And before you think you got away from it all, MORE PAINTING PICTURES!  These are pictures from finishing up our kitchen.  The kitchen is now done and currently being organized, so every single question of "Where is _____?" is no longer followed by a long pause and "Somewhere."

Um, somebody forgot to tell Alice that it's cool to be N'Sync, not In Sink.

This is PainTing, the 6'3" way.  Notice the ceiling-level reach without chair.

Ok, stop squinting and shuddering, no more painting pictures.  These last couple are from our 307 "front yard" barbeque.

The view from our front door.  From left to right: Eric Yoo, Ting "Pastor" Wang, David "The Plague" Lu, Lisa, Becky "Samo" Wang, Ted, Christine "Pink" Yang, Sei "The Gyungster" Kim, and with her back turned, Tina "Captain Tinarrr" Chou.

A group picture that turned out well for a candid shot.  Except for this odd-looking green spot on the left.

In attendance at the bbq were (roughly in order of appearance, I believe) Ted, Danny, Jerry, Tina, Joanna "Dooface" Han, Christine, Jess, PTing, Becky, David, Sei, Eric, Theresa, Lisa, and Chinsan "Phud Man" Han.

In other news, Ted and I found out today why we haven't seen T in so long.  He's in China.

That's it for now, folks.  Summer is well under way, and it's off to a ROCKIN' start.

At last...

Finally, I can join in on all the work! After doing nothing but typing and editing for the past 4 days (58 pages altogether), I can't wait to get my hands dirty.

Yay!

Day 3 - Running.  Along.

Ok so most of the upstairs is done, and almost all of the living room is done.  Next we move onto the dining room and kitchen area, and painting trim.  Wednesday will be full of this kind of stuff, and might see the most different kinds of tasks happening in one day ever - using rollers and brushes with the flat paint for walls and ceilings, brushing in semi-gloss paint for trim, priming the woodwork, and who knows, maybe even some random dismantling of stuff. We still could use (read "need") a lot of help, so do come on by.  This is your chance to get your personal tutorial on proper techniques in rolling, cutting in, and brush work, taught by a real working amateur.  Standard features included in all paint sessions are charming company, free food stuffs, rockin' good music, and sincere gratitude from people of the classes of 2003, 2004, and 2005.

Lunch today will consist of fresh baked pizza. Dinner has yet to be decided.  Be watching for late night breakfast food type provisions, like homemade french toast and store-bought milk.  All in all, it promises to be a blaring good time, so come by and try your hand at FiCS-ing up a house.

I (Danny) will be there starting around 10:30, 11 am or so, until maybe 3-ish.  Ted will be there 3:30-4ish, until he has to leave for senior dinner (~7).  I'll return around then to work until whenever.  Since our place is so close to campus, we can pick you up and drop you off whenever without a problem.

Lastly, be sure to wear clothes you don't mind getting painted. Glasses instead of contacts are a good idea too.  Come paint with us!
